Southern Latitudes Fly Fishing is committed to providing the best dry fly fishing in the Southern Hemisphere. While streamers and nymphs are often used the rivers and lakes in this area truly provide incredible hatches and dry fly fishing. There is also a broad variety of water to sample here. From the lush, green Simpson with its pools and riffles to the dry cutbanks of the Ñireguao. From the heavy, powerful, blue waters of the Baker to the calm, winding S-curves of the Spring Creek.

Southern Latitudes Fly Fishing Coyhaique, Chile December
Dropping rivers in Jan. produced some good fishing and the small streams still remained fine also. The Haymakers, Mary Redmond and Kiku Hanes all had wonderful fishing on the Emperador Guillermo, a small stream near Coyhaique. Lots of medium sized rainbows and browns on dries and droppers. George Haymaker caught a 20" brown twitching a #4 gypsy king like a popper around the logs on the Simpson.
Max and Linda Doering returned to Coyhaique for their third time in February. Their fishing on the Baker river was good but not incredible. The Simpson kicked out a lot of fish up to 20" when they floated on Feb. 6. I think the highlight was a 23" brown on Lago Misterioso. Later in Feb. Hugh Sargent and Ellison Thomas, part of the Atlanta group which comes every year, had one of those days it's hard to talk about. They caught so many fish on the Emperador Guillermo river that you can't mention the number because people won't believe it! Dick Allison and Hugh Sargent had some great wade fishing on the Simpson Landing a 20" brown and a 20" rainbow.
Mike Carter and Ken Mullen finished off Feb. and started March. Taking advantage of low water we fished a special stream with lots of hiking, catching tons of small to medium rainbows and browns on dries. The flip side of the low water coin was our day on the Ñireguao where fish were hiding at the bottoms of the deepest pools in low water. The rest of March and April was a lot of fantastic wade fishing especially on the Simpson river. Real good numbers of 18-20" fish in shallow riffles. Another trip to Lago Misterioso yielded a 24" brown on his second cast!
